Michael Reyes for Reynolds School District Board, Position 3

Michael Reyes is a life-long educational advocate, but more importantly, he’s a parent of a Reynolds student. He’s committed to using his knowledge and experience in education and policy to serve Reynolds students and families.

Meet Michael

Michael was raised in a military family and grew up in many different parts of the country and even abroad. He’s lived in East Multnomah County for nearly 14 years and has worked in and around education all his career. From coordinating youth programs to working in higher education, he brings over 12 years of experience in education. He also spent six years in philanthropy working closely with community-led efforts for policy change. Many of these efforts aimed to improve Oregon’s educational system, and several succeeded! Now, he works at the Oregon Department of Education leading the Latino/a/x Student Success Plan, which supports community-led efforts to improve the educational opportunity gap across the state.

Community Engagement

We have a diverse community in Reynolds, and it is a strength we must tap into. Our families bring a wealth of life and cultural experiences, and every Reynolds school will benefit from actively and authentically engaging their families. This includes listening to families first anytime a decision needs to be made.

Reflective Staff

It is critical we take active measures to ensure our staff and teachers reflect our student population. Teachers who share the same cultural background and life experiences as our students can connect with them and their families in positive and impactful ways.

Academic Excellence

The Reynolds community deserves a district where every student receives the best education. This means working together with families and teachers to invest in programs that honor the cultural and linguistic strengths of our students and help them achieve new heights.
